The processing follows these detailed stages:

1. Harvesting and Base Tea Preparation

  • Time-Sensitive Growth: The base tea is a "1st Flush" peony silver needle green tea grown high in the Fujian Mountains of China. This premium tea is harvested during a narrow window of only three weeks per year in early spring.
  • Initial Drying: Fresh leaves are handpicked and quickly dried using heat to prevent oxidation, which preserves the light green color and high antioxidant levels.

2. Traditional Jasmine Scenting (The Infusion)

Unlike teas that use artificial oils, Madam Butterfly is naturally scented through a multi-night labor-intensive process:

  • Flower Harvesting: Fresh jasmine buds are hand-plucked in the afternoon while still closed.
  • Layering Technique: The prepared green tea leaves are spread out, and the jasmine buds are placed on top. As dusk falls, the jasmine petals unfurl, releasing their fragrance into the tea leaves.
  • 7-Night Cycle: For the "Reserve" or high-end versions, this scenting process is repeated for seven consecutive nights with fresh batches of jasmine buds each night to achieve a deep, semi-sweet floral aroma.

3. Factory Refining and Quality Control

  • Raw Material Refining: A "significant additional raw material refining" is performed to ensure the product meets the top 5% of global luxury standards.
  • Small-Batch Blending: The tea is blended in small batches to ensure consistency and maintain the integrity of the delicate jasmine petals often found in the final mix.
