Moon Roasted Husk
Moon Roasted Husk is a WuYi Shan "Hua Xiang" Da Hong Pao (DHP) tea. It is a refined, lightly processed Rock Oolong designed to emphasize its floral character rather than heavy charcoal roasting. "Hua Xiang" (花香) translates to "flower aroma," reflecting the tea's primary sensory profile.
Key Characteristics
- Aroma: Features a soft, high floral bouquet reminiscent of orchids. It also carries undertones of honey, light roasted nuts, and a signature Wuyi mineral scent.
- Flavor Profile: The tea begins with sweet floral and fruity notes (often likened to cherries or berries) followed by a gentle minerality and subtle roast. Later infusions deepen into stone fruit and honeyed sweetness.
- Liquor & Appearance: The brewed tea is clear with a warm amber-gold or light orange-yellow color. The dry leaves are typically long, twisted, and brown to cordovan-brown.
- Mouthfeel: Described as balanced, smooth, and refreshing, with a clean and calming finish.
Processing and Origin
- Origin: Grown in the Wuyi Mountains of Fujian, China.
- Processing: Harvested in the Spring (first flush), it undergoes light oxidation (roughly 35–40%) and delicate charcoal or fuel roasting. This light roasting style is intended to set the natural aromatics without introducing a dominant smoky flavor.
- Infusions: It is highly resilient, capable of maintaining its flavor profile across multiple steepings (typically 9+ infusions).
This tea is often recommended as a "daily drinker" for those who prefer a brighter, more fragrant oolong over the traditional heavily charred varieties of Da Hong Pao.
