Hadel Drift
Hadel Drift is a green-style Fujian Oolong tea. It is characterized by its light oxidation and rolled, vibrant green leaves that produce a pale golden liquor.
Key Characteristics
- Name Origin: The tea’s original Chinese name "Mao Xie" (Crab Hair) refers to the tiny silver-white hairs found on the underside of the tea leaves, which may break off and float in the cup after brewing.
- Flavor Profile: It is generally described as smoother and sweeter than its counterpart, Tie Guan Yin. Common tasting notes include:
- Floral & Fruity: Strong floral notes like gardenia or magnolia, with fruit hints of peach, apricot, or melon.
- Sweet & Savory: A buttery or creamy texture with a refreshing, crisp sweetness that some compare to honey or caramel.
- Vegetal: Subtle notes of sweet greens, such as lightly steamed bok choy or bamboo.
- Mouthfeel: It is noted for a thick, silky, and creamy body with a lingering, sweet aftertaste.
Preparation Tips
- Gong Fu Style: Approximately 7 grams of leaf per 100ml in a gaiwan or teapot.
- Water Temperature: Use boiling water (100°C / 212°F) or slightly lower (90-95°C) to fully extract its flavor from the thick leaves.
- Infusions: The tea is highly durable, often providing 8 to 12 infusions when steeped gong fu style.
