Reed's Song

Reed's Song, also known as Anji Bai Cha, is a high-quality green tea harvested from the original cloned varietal cultivars in Anji County, Zhejiang. Despite its name, which translates to "Anji White Tea," it is processed as a green tea; it is called "white" because the unpicked young leaves have naturally low chlorophyll levels, giving them a pale, whitish appearance.

Key Characteristics (2025 Harvest)

  • Origin & Cultivar: Grown in Anji County, Zhejiang Province, using the "Bai Ye Yi Hao" (White Leaf #1) cultivar.
  • Flavor Profile: This tea is described as very sweet, thick, and viscous with a complex aroma. Notable flavor notes include:
  • Creamy roasted chestnut and light umami.
  • Subtle vegetal notes and a lingering sweet lemon finish.
  • Amino Acid Content: It is exceptionally high in L-theanine (amino acids), containing roughly 3–4 times more than standard green teas, which contributes to its "brothy" umami taste and soothing effect.
  • Appearance: The dry leaves are long, wiry, and bright green, resembling needles. When infused, the liquor is a clear, pale yellow or light green.

Brewing Recommendations

To maximize the sweetness and minimize bitterness, Yunnan Sourcing suggests the following:

  • Water Temperature: 75°C to 80°C (167°F to 176°F).
  • Water Quality: High-quality spring water is recommended.
  • Steeping Time: Use short steeping times (Gongfu style) for the best results; the leaves are durable and can withstand multiple infusions.
